With a seismic southpaw serve, once clocked at 153 miles per hour, the Chattanooga, TN native won the Australian Open in 1977. Tanner also narrowly lost in the 1979 Wimbedon final to Borg in five sets - by just a single break. The former world no. 4 captured the last of his 16 ATP singles titles in Philadelphia in 1981.
